The Virginia City Gold Rush is back for its third year and is better than ever! New this year is the introduction of the 5k Competitive wave. Runners choosing this option will start before the rest of the field - this is intended for athletes on sports teams who want to run FAST!  Of course, anyone not currently on a team but with a competitive itch to scratch is welcome to choose this option as well. For those looking for something less intense, the always fun 5k Recreational wave and the kid friendly 1.2k Fun Run are great choices!

All participants will be treated to a running/walking tour of Historic Virginia City! The start is in Discovery-Ellingsen Park, runners leave the park either the fast way across the very shallow stream, or the slower dry way over a footbridge. From there the route goes to downtown Virginia City. 1.2k walkers and runners return to the park while the 5k participants take a hillier route past many additional historic structures in Virginia City and also take in the view from Boot Hill Cemetery. Finally the 5k returns to the Discovery-Ellingsen Park for refreshments, awards, and a great time afterwards! Be on the lookout for the stage coach, narrow gauge train, and course marshals dressed in 1800's regalia! The Virginia City Goldrush benefits the Virginia City Chamber of Commerce and it's continual effort to support tourism, local business, and its community.
